The blog includes comments from the teacher that also support Hank's efforts to teach:

http://sbsapeuro.blogspot.com/2007/10/digital-citizen-hank-and-history-in.html

Allison Sheridan
NosillaCast Podcast at http://podfeet.com
A technology geek podcast with an EVER so slight Macintosh bias!
Follow me at http://twitter.com/podfeetAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1930280893880221735.post-64531582319240690802009-09-29T06:09:37.581+02:002009-09-29T06:09:37.581+02:00I am the person who urged Hank to do this podcast,...I am the person who urged Hank to do this podcast, and I'm his webmaster. Let me give a little background that may help your understanding.

Hank received the highest grade in AP Euro for our school...of all time. He achieved a 5 on the AP exam, which is the highest you can receive. Hank is now a sophomore at Dartmouth.

The AP exams are standardized across the US for all students, so the curriculum he goes through here was developed in conjunction with his AP Euro teacher. I'm not a student of history at all myself (it bores me!) but the fact that he worked this with his teacher and his own credentials suggest that his material is truthful and correct.

You mention that you can't say if this helps his listeners, but if you read the comments on his posts you can see that they have indeed had their scores and comprehension of the subject improved by this podcast.

You seem to have some complain with his delivery but this I think is part of what makes his instruction valuable - he speaks like a teenager, and he's teaching teenagers so they can hear him.

Like I said, history bores me to distraction, but who wouldn't lean in to a show that starts with "Ok, let me tell you about my favorite corrupt popes!"

Allison Sheridan
NosillaCast Podcast at http://podfeet.com
A technology geek podcast with an EVER so slight Macintosh bias!
Follow me at http://twitter.com/podfeetAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1930280893880221735.post-74341468537495637962008-12-17T01:54:00.000+02:002008-12-17T01:54:00.000+02:00It should be noted that an AP class is no way the ...It should be noted that an AP class is no way the highest level of secondary classes. There are also multiple standards. Such as an IB student may have to take an AP course as an IB course therefore making it much much much harder than a normal AP course. Almost all IB courses are more difficult than an AP course.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
