Report a podcast

This blog is about the podcasts I have found and mostly about those I like. I review those podcasts, trying to give you some kind of an impression on what to expect. My hope is, you will find this blog to be a source for finding new podcasts to listen to. My main area of interest is history and this spills over into geography, social sciences, language, science, philosophy and religion.

There are, however, so many more valuable podcasts to be found and likely to be overlooked by me, either because I missed out on a major source of podcasts or because I dismissed it out of hand. I am the first to admit some really great podcasts that deserve to be mentioned here will not be reviewed and that is a pity. Whenever readers alert me to a podcast, I always take a second look and some listening time.

Let me know which podcast you want me to pay attention to and provided I can give some words of appraisal about them, they will certainly make it to the blog. You can communicate your podcast tips by leaving a comment anywhere in the blog or send me a mail, Anne Frid de Vries (in one word) AT yahoo DOT co DOT uk.

I am looking forward to your input.

  1. Anne... your site is one of my favorites on the web. I thought I'd pass along two more podcasts by Dr. Gretchen Ann Reilly of Temple College in Temple, Texas, USA. History 2311 Western Civilization Part I (to 1600) and part II http://web.mac.com/gareilly/2311/Podcast/Podcast.html and http://web.mac.com/gareilly/2311/Podcast/Podcast.html. Dr. Reilly also podcasts her American History courses which you already have on our list.

  2. Hi Marje,

I am so happy to see you commenting on my blog. I am always looking at your trailfire, as one of my history podcast sources (see sidebar)
You are right History 2311 and 2312 deserve attention on my blog. I have noted them in the passing here, but surely should check again.

  3. Hi Anne; Great site! Have you checked out the My Living Room! Radio Show podcast yet? The host has some really good interviews and great music. If you are bored of the mainstream then this would be a good place to check out some alternative listening. http://www.myspace.com/mylivingroomradioshow

  5. Hi Anne,

I really like your blog. Your reviews are fair and thorough and you seem to have a wide breadth of subjects you're interested in reviewing.

Myself and my friend Wil, both of us lecturers in a technical college here in Ireland, have recently started our own podcast on a weekly basis. It is quite general in topic but generally comedic in tone. Thus far, we have chosen a different subject each week that we discuss at some length. For a two week old podcast we seem to be doing quite well with over 200 subscribers and good feedback/questions from our listenership.

We're keen to expand our audience of course and would really appreciate you having a listen.

    Thanks for your time,

  6. Hi Anneisaman
It occurred to me that I'd never seen a review on your blog of the podcast of the BBC History magazine. I did a search and found you've mentioned it briefly once but you've not held it under the Anne Reviewer microscope. The latest one is particular fun as there's a section on the very strange offence of 'Crim Con'.

  7. After the first two reviews I have kept following the BBC History Magazine for a couple of more issues and then lost interest. I'll try to take a new look into it again.

  8. Anne, I suppose this comment dispels any notion of my possessing any modesty. lol!

I produce a weekly podcast called Cat Crave Radio (http://catcrave.com). I've been at it a little over a year now.

While it is a sports show dedicated to the Carolina Panthers and may be outside of your normal areas of interest, I hope you will take a listen. Any mention and/or reviews or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and I really enjoy your site. Keep up the great work!

  9. aw man, that is going to be a tough one. Not only do I hardly do sports, but have I ever ventured beyond soccer (real football!) and tour de france (biking)? And then Football (what you call football)... I'll give it a shot, but can't promise. OK?

  10. It is amazing the different connotations that a word can take on when uttered on different continents, isn't it? lol!

Football...or American football - in this case American football. I certainly understand if this is a topic that is not of your personal taste or liking.

Thank you again for your consideration.

  11. forget about taste or liking. Think of lack of basic understanding. The non-existence of even the remotest knowledge. I can explain the off-side rule in soccer, but I wouldn't be able to identify anything in football beyond the helmets, the shoulder pads and a ball that makes me think of rugby.

  13. Hi Anne,
I recently discovered your site on a google alert and have spent more time than I should listening to and enjoying (for the most part) the range of podcasts you've listed. I've been working my podcast for a year or so and would like your input. http://crankyolddoods.blogspot.com
Thanks for your consideration and for your hard work at maintaining your site.

  18. Hello Anne,
I don't find my podcast in your list. I see you appreciate The skeptics guide, so maybe you will also appreciate Kritisch denken: http://www.kritischdenken.info

I try to answer the lack of a dutch alternative for "The Skeptics Guide" and "Skeptiod" and many other ones.

    Anne
